Ireland County Cork

The Altar Wedge Tomb is dated at 3000 - 2000BC, the end of the Stone Age, and built from local slabs. There are a dozen of these on the Mizen Peninsula with the entrance lined up with Mizen Peak. Ritual use of the tomb continued for centuries until the arrival of Christianity. Again it was used as an altar in the 18th century by priests forbidden by law to say mass in a church.
